Lenders or title insurance companies require a survey.

The survey is a drawing of the property which shows the perimeter boundaries and marks the location of the house and other improvements.

Sometimes you can avoid the cost of getting a survey done if there is an existing survey available. Check with your lender or title insurance company to determine if the existing survey is acceptable.
